We did our due diligence and discovered that yes, indeed; Garcinia Cambogia can give you diarrhea as well as seven other possible side effects. The truth is though, not everyone will experience diarrhea or any of the seven possible side effects that will be discussed here. Sometimes that fact is hard to keep in mind when the information, and misinformation, that can be obtained from social media sometimes causes people to think in the collective rather than the individual.

Garcinia Cambogia is the rind of a fruit that is native to South and South East Asia. It has been on the market as a weight loss supplement for a while, but research on the compound has produced conflicting results. Garcinia Cambogia has been associated with a brain fog/ fatigue, skin rashes, a lowered immune function, halitosis and dry mouth, headaches, nausea and liver malfunction. Read on to answer the question, does Garcinia Cambogia make you poop?

But First: Why Take Garcinia Cambogia?

A secondary question that arises when looking for an answer to the question of does Garcinia Cambogia make you poop, is, if there's any chance it can make you have diarrhea, then why take Garcinia Cambogia in the first place?

This product is associated with appetite suppression and weight loss. Since not everyone experiences the same side effects, some users claim that Garcinia Cambogia is safe for them to use. The evidence supporting the efficacy of Garcinia Cambogia in terms of appetite suppression and weight loss is inconclusive and contradictory; but so is evidence of side effects.

Garcinia Cambogia and Diarrhea

Garcinia Cambogia reportedly reduces lipogenesis, or fat production. The very fact that fat metabolism is suddenly being altered could cause diarrhea. Garcinia Cambogia fruit extracts also contain soluble and insoluble fiber, and this could cause gastrointestinal irritation and diarrhea that for some could last beyond the first few days of taking the supplement. Those with pre-existing gastrointestinal issues such as IBS will most likely have a higher frequency of diarrhea when using Garcinia Cambogia.

Other Possible Side Effects

Brain Fog /Fatigue

So, what is brain fog? Brain fog with fatigue is not a medical condition. It is a colloquial word to describe a group of symptoms related to a diminished ability to think and is sometimes associated with confusion, loss of focus and decreased ability to think and communicate in an organized fashion. Most people think of brain fog and fatigue as happening during chemotherapy or occurring to people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and other disorders.

Brain fog and fatigue also occurs with over-the-counter preparations such as Garcinia Cambogia. Some people who report having brain fog and fatigue while taking Garcinia Cambogia correlate their symptoms to an alteration in metabolism, especially glucose. Others reports that their brain fog and fatigue may have been due to reactions between Garcinia Cambogia and other medications they were taking at the time.

Skin Rashes

The skin rashes that may occur while using Garcinia Cambogia are thought to be an allergic reaction to the supplement itself or any additives. A skin rash that suddenly appears with the initiation of Garcinia Cambogia will need to be evaluated. If skin rash occurs with other symptoms, such as wheezing, difficulty breathing and swelling of the hands and face, considerate it a medical emergency.

Lowered Immune Function

Some people report an increased incidence of colds and flu when taking this supplement; yet others reported a boost to their immune system. There has been a study which demonstrated that rats with inflammatory conditions of the colon showed a decrease in inflammation with the use of Garcinia Cambogia, but that was just one study and it was a study on rats.

Lowered immune function may not ever be able to be studied in a reliable fashion because there are so many confounding factors, but since some Garcinia Cambogia users reported an increase in colds, we've reported here.

Halitosis/Dry Mouth

Xerostomia, or dry mouth, occurs when there is an insufficient production of saliva in the mouth. Saliva plays an important role in managing the bacterial environment within the mouth. With insufficient saliva production, bacterial metabolic processes create bad breath, also known as halitosis. The primary cause of dry mouth and its resulting bad breath is medication usage.

We were unable to discover if the active ingredient in Garcinia Cambogia exerted an anticholinergic effect, but we know that certain drugs, which can include anticholinergic medications, are notorious for causing dry mouth and bad breath. Those who use medications such as antihistamines, pain relievers and diuretics at the same time that they use Garcinia Cambogia will most certainly suffer an increase in xerostomia and halitosis.

Headaches

Headaches and been reported with the use of Garcinia Cambogia. Since headache is a symptom and not a disease, the occurrence of headaches with the use of Garcinia Cambogia may be attributed to its active ingredient or it may be attributed to changes in metabolism due to use of Garcinia Cambogia, change in diet, alterations in blood sugar and concurrent use with other medication.

A headache associated with the use of this product may also be due to an increase in blood pressure for some users. The judicious use of Garcinia Cambogia includes the regular monitoring of blood pressure by those who also take medication for hypertension.

Nausea

While nausea has been reported by those who use Garcinia Cambogia, it has not been verified if nausea is a result of the ingestion of Garcinia for the first few days, if users have been taking Garcinia Cambogia on an empty stomach or if nausea is a result of taking this product with other medication.

Nausea may or may not precede a vomiting. It should be noted that nausea is one of the most frequent side effects for every medication and supplement, not just Garcinia Cambogia. Nausea that does not resolve in the first few days after starting Garcinia Cambogia may result in dehydration if fluids cannot be kept down.

Liver Malfunction

The incidence of liver-related issues while taking Garcinia Cambogia are rather rare. Data that links liver problems to the use of Garcinia Cambogia are unreliable. Patients who suffered liver damage after taking Garcinia Cambogia may have had some predisposition for liver problems or had pre-existing liver malfunction.

While the side effect of liver malfunction due to Garcinia Cambogia has not been fully substantiated, it does beg the issue of user awareness about pre-existing conditions when starting to use this product.

Dosage and Duration

Mention needs to be made here regarding the dosage and duration of Garcinia Cambogia use. Humans are notorious for following the MORE IS BETTER philosophy. During our review of the literature, we frequently came across the notation that Garcinia Cambogia users who had sought medical attention for sometimes critical side effects were found to have been taking far more than the recommended dosage; which is 500 mg, three times a day.

We were astonished to read where many users who had sought medical attention for side effects, such as the ones we discussed here, had been taking Garcinia Cambogia supplements on a regular basis just like they would a daily vitamin. We even read the reports of a woman who came into an emergency room with a plethora of symptoms who said she had been using Garcinia Cambodia nonstop for over a year; the recommended duration for this medication is up to 12 weeks at a time.

Does Garcinia Cambogia Make You Poop?

One of the most frequently reported side effects from the use of Garcinia Cambogia is diarrhea. The problem with this product is the fact that most data surrounding it is not scientifically supported and often a result of questionable scientific methodology.

One reason the question "does Garcinia Cambogia make you poop" often gets a "yes" may be the product itself, or it may be from the reported alteration in fat metabolism. It may also be from a change in diet or the concurrent use of alcohol or illicit drugs. Garcinia Cambogia may cause diarrhea when it reacts with other medication and supplements. Diarrhea may be a sign of liver toxicity, as well.
